<spanArial","sans-serif"">Recovered paper prices are now lower than they have been for years on the European markets. In Italy, some volumes from the Comieco consortium have changed hands for €1.11/t.

The Comieco consortium in Italy, which regularly auctions off recovered paper from municipalities, has sold some mixed paper (1.02) volumes for €1.11/t in its latest auction in mid-July. The results of the auction show that paper manufacturer Burgo was able to acquire some not insignificant volumes of mixed paper at this or only slightly higher prices. However, prices varied widely, with other volumes often selling for up to €40/t and even for up to €55/t in rare cases.

OCC prices reached in the auction were also partly very low. The minimum price offered was around €5/t and the highest prices did not exceed €50/t.

Although the Comieco volumes are not traded on the free market and do not represent market prices, they do give evidence of the state of the market. The trend at the auctions often indicates the direction the market is heading.
