Coreboard prices set to rise in Italy

Italy's coreboard manufacturers have announced price hikes of up to 50 €/t amid spiraling costs for energy, raw materials and logistics.

Italy's coreboard producers are working to increase their prices by up to 50 €/t and have informed their customers of the intention to charge more as of October. Market players explained that in several cases coreboard prices have already edged up in September and that October is expected to see a market-wide implementation of manufacturers' price plans.

Demand for coreboard strengthened a little in July. Cores producers have been pretty busy before the summer break and thus ordered more coreboard, sources in Italy told EUWID. However, insiders agreed that this circumstance was mainly fuelled by seasonal factors. Cores producers often made last-minute purchases in July so that they had enough material on hand during the traditional three-week August downtime at coreboard mills, one expert said.

By and large, demand for coreboard was characterised as stable but not particularly strong in the third quarter as a whole. However, a couple of market players felt that their order books looked slightly better than at this time last year or at the start of the year.

EUWID Price Watch Coreboard Italy

EUWID Pulp and Paper will introduce a new price watch for coreboard in Italy beginning with this issue. The price researched by our team is based on one of the mass grades in Italy, a type of board with a ply-bond strength of 300 J/m² and a bulk of up to 1.5 cm³/g. The price watch will be published every three months at the end of the quarter.
