Corex acquires cores producer Topcore in Finland

09 Aug 2021 −

Cores producer Corex has been growing in the past years. After taking over a big part of Corenso's business operations in 2019, the company continued its expansion in the Nordic countries.

Integrated cores producer Corex is growing its presence in the Nordic countries, where it already operates five core plants and one coreboard mill. The company announced the acquisition of Topcore, a cores producer based in Liljendal in southern Finland. Topcore produces cores for the paper, plastic film and other industries on three production lines, which have an annual capacity of 12,000 t.

Corex is a division of the Belgian VPK Group and makes cores, tubes and edge protectors for various applications. The company puts its total capacities at 300,000 tpy of coreboard and 285,000 tpy of cores. It employs 1,300 people and has 29 plants mostly in Europe, but also in China.

Around 2 years ago, Corex acquired the Chinese and European business operations of Corenso, thereby almost doubling its production capacities for cores. The transaction also included two coreboard mills in Finland and France, which are now the only coreboard mills of the group. In 2018, Corex also expanded its capacities in Poland and acquired Tupak in the Netherlands.
