Printing and writing paper companies confirm that a number of orders have been cancelled.

The spread of coronavirus and the French government's restrictions on social life have started to have an impact on operations at a number of paper, board and packaging mills in France. On Friday, 20 March the French association of paper producers Copacel said that four paper and board mills had stopped operations during the past few days, three of them in the packaging paper market.

One smaller integrated mill producing corrugated case material and corrugated board confirmed to EUWID that it had to stop part of its operations on Wednesday this week and the rest on Friday because of a lack of workers. The mill's director explained that a number of his workers were confused about the government's statements on the near-total lockdown on Tuesday and decided to stay at home.

A printing and writing paper mill confirmed that a paper machine was down, however not due to coronavirus but because of a failure in its electric system.

Three plants of an exercise book and stationery producer closed down because a number of his workers were scared to come to their workplaces.

Generally speaking markets insiders in France confirmed that in the course of the third week in March order intake in some businesses started to go down, especially in the printing and writing paper segment. Print orders were cancelled, and reportedly two companies distributing flyers and printed advertising have stopped delivering for two weeks.
