De Jong buys DS Smith's De Hoop paper mill

Dutch De Jong Packaging Group will buy DS Smith’s De Hoop paper mill in The Netherlands for a cash consideration of €50m.

The mill produces 370,000 tpy of mainly heavier grades of recycled corrugated case material and is located in Eerbeek, the companies announced.

“The demand for corrugated packaging is accelerating and the acquisition fits in the strategy to be an integrated packaging company,” said Ad Smith, CEO of De Jong Packaging Group. This acquisition mark’s the company’s entry to the production of corrugated case material.

DS Smith announced that the sale of the mill is in line with its “short paper” position in Northern Europe where there is a greater amount of external paper capacity available to the group.
