Demand for woodfree paper in France recovers in August

In July and August demand for woodfree printing and writing paper in France has recovered from the lows they touched in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

Trends for woodfree printing and writing paper prices seen in July on the French market continued in August. Producers noted greater order inflow especially for uncoated woodfree paper, bringing it closer to what they would have normally expected in August on the French market without the coronavirus crisis.

One paper producer spoke of a "normal summer slump" with the usual low-key business activity in August. Similar reports were heard from other players whose order inflow where at 90 per cent in July. Other market sources, however, qualified that demand for uncoated woodfree paper is still far from where it stood last August.

Prices stood under incipient pressure in August. They had already yielded significantly in the last weeks and months.
