Alizay paper mill produces uncoated woodfree offset and office paper and recycled copy paper. The decision to temporarily halt paper production was triggered by high inventory levels, according to Filpac CGT trade union.

Following roughly six weeks of downtime, the uncoated woodfree paper mill in Alizay, France, owned by Thai paper producer Double A is set to resume production in the next one or two days, a spokesman for the Filpac CGT union told EUWID on 17 January. The spokesman explained that fine paper production was halted at the beginning of December owing to increasing inventory levels. The employees were in short-time work and were still being fully paid, he said. Double A was not available for comment.

Production at the factory has been limited since September of last year. According to reports in various local newspapers and confirmation from the union, short-time work measures were introduced and the plant was not operating at full capacity. Production was then fully halted in December, the spokesman said.

The Alizay mill runs one 300,00 tpy paper machine and produces uncoated woodfree and recycled paper. Production output was recently around 250,000 t, according to the union spokesman. Of this amount, recycled paper accounted for around 10,000-20,000 t, he estimated. The number of employees in Alizay is said to be about 200.
