13 Apr 2021 −

Demand for packaging in e-commerce and for FMCG is rising, the company says.

In the course of the next 12 months, DS Smith plans to double output capacity at its Arnstadt corrugated board plant in Germany. In early April the company announced that around €16.7m would be invested in a new hall, a new corrugator and two new, automated conveyor systems, helping to improve automation of internal transportation. A symbolic ground-breaking ceremony occurred recently.

The corrugator will have a working width of 2.80 m, offering optimised paper utilisation at higher speed. Its capacity will amount to around 140 million m2 per year. DS Smith says it intends to meet rising demand for packaging in the e-commerce and FMCG areas. The investment at the Arnstadt plant will also significantly cut energy consumption and the amount of paper waste. The new corrugator is to save 154 t of CO2 per.
