No competition concerns, Commission says

In a decision published on 23 January the Commission of the European Union said that it approved the planned takeover of French containerboard and corrugated board producer Emin Leydier by Spain’s Saica. The Commission said that the planned transaction would raise no competition concerns since both companies had a limited share in overlapping markets.

On 20 December 2017, the Commission received notification of the proposed acquisition. According to the notification, Saica was to acquire control of the whole of Emin Leydier by way of purchase of shares. In a statement in the Official Journal of the European Union the Commission had said that on preliminary examination it found that the notified transaction could fall within the scope of the Merger Regulation. It also noted that the case was a candidate for simplified procedure.
