EC clears Ritrama acquisition by Fedrigoni

The European Commission has no objections
to the acquisition of Ritrama by Fedrigoni.
20 Dec 2019 −

Bain Capital-controlled group Fedrigoni got the green light to acquire label producer Ritrama. The deal is said to boost Fedrigoni's position in the market for presure-sensitive labels and materials.

The European Commission (EC) has approved the acquisition of Italy's label producer Ritrama by the Bain Capital-controlled Fedrigoni group. According to the EC, the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, "because the companies' combined market positions would remain moderate and a number of strong players would remain in the market after the merger."

The Ritrama group consists of Ri.Tra.Ma. Rink Trading and Manufacturing S.p.A., Coating Ricofin Srl and Eurotac Srl. The group focuses on the production and distribution of self-adhesive labelstock. The deal also covers Italy's flexible materials producer Polifibra, which is 100% owned by Ritrama.

Fedrigoni is active in the production and sale of graphic and fine paper, security paper and solutions, self-adhesive labels and materials, and stationery.

The deal would combine Fedrigoni's position in the wine label market, and in the production of labels for the food, household and logistics markets, with the self-adhesive technologies of Ritrama, which is "one of the top producers globally of labels for the pharmaceutical, beverage and personal care markets," Fedrigoni explained at the time the deal was announced.

Fedrigoni and Ritrama said they expected the transaction to be concluded in the first quarter of 2020.
