The world’s biggest pulp line has started up at Eldorado Brazil’s new Três Lagoas mill. Also in Brazil, CMPC’s Guaíba pulp mill expansion has now been given the go-ahead.
Eldorado Papel e Celulose (Eldorado Brasil) has started up the new pulp line at its Três Lagoas mill in the Brazilian province of Mato Grosso do Sul in early December. The company told EUWID that the new line with a capacity of 1.5 million tpy of eucalyptus pulp had successfully been put into operation and had been producing market pulp since 6 December. Eldorado Brazil is satisfied with the start-up which was initially planned for the third quarter of the year.
Simultaneously, another major pulp project in Brazil is going ahead. Chilean pulp manufacturer Empresas CMPC communicated that its Board of Directors had approved the expansion of the company’s Guaíba mill in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Moreover, CMPC added that it had obtained all state, municipal and environmental permits and authorisations necessary to realise the project.
A new pulp line at Guaíba is to increase the mill’s annual production capacity by 1.3 million t of eucalyptus pulp (BEK). It is expected to come on stream in the first quarter of 2015. The site has currently one eucalyptus pulp line with a capacity of 450,000 tpy. “The Guaíba II project will almost double our market share of global pulp and help us meet growing demand for high quality wood pulp from clients in all our markets”, commented Hernan Rodriguez, CEO of CMPC.
