Envelope and shipping bag paper prices rise in Germany

After a slight summer lull, supply is scarce on the market for envelope and shipping bag paper in Germany in September. Prices for both primary fibre and recycled grades are poised to go up again.

Prices for white woodfree envelope paper were hiked on 1 July, and producers have announced another increase from October. Negotiations on the increase have not yet been finalised.

For recycled grades, the first hike also took place on 1 July, with the second already following on 1 September in some cases, or in October in other cases.

Although the envelope industry posts double-digit growth in 2021 deliveries compared with the same period last year, the increase is no reason to rejoice in view of the 25 per cent dip in 2020 resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, experts told EUWID. Industry sources do not believe that deliveries will return to pre-pandemic levels anywhere in Europe, either.
