Essity sees overcapacity in mother reel production at Nokia site. The mill runs two tissue machines and produces private consumer and away-from-home tissue grades for its own converting activities and external customers.

Tissue paper and products manufacturer Essity plans to shut down one tissue production line at the company's Nokia site in Finland. The closure is planned for the end of the third quarter and will result in a reduction of maximum of 30 jobs, Essity said.

The employee's representatives have been already informed and the statutory negotiations kicked off on 25 March, Finnish paperworkers' trade union Paperiliitto explained.

According to Essity, the proposed closure of the smaller of the two paper machines is part of an organisational restructuring at the Nokia mill with the goal to reduce overcapacity and improve efficiency. The programme also entails a €4m investment at the site.
