Exceptional situation persists for newsprint in Poland

Following the production downtime at Poland's only newsprint machine in mid-March, newsprint supply in the country has been extremely tight and spot prices have been soaring.

Supplies of newsprint in Poland remain extremely tight. The country's only publication paper machine at IP's facility in Kwidzyn has been offline since mid-March with no date to restart the machine so far.

Buyers are trying to get more material from abroad, but are only partly successful in doing so as the global newsprint market is rather tight due to permanent machine shutdowns and increased demand for finished paper from China.

This situation has created an extremely heated spot market and soaring spot prices. Suppliers now also want to increase contract prices for the third quarter and believe the exceptional situation could make it necessary to renegotiate annual contracts.
