Excess demand and individual mark-ups for SC paper in Germany

SC paper suppliers on the German market find it increasingly difficult to meet additional orders over and above contracted volumes. This situation has led manufacturers to charge more for additional volumes.

The German SC paper market is becoming tighter. Buyers must see how they can meet their needs for additional volumes, EUWID respondents concurred. According to industry experts, SC-B producers are finding it particularly difficult to meet demand for additional volumes. Buyers confirm the shortage and add that manufacturers are demanding premiums.

The situation is similar for SC-A paper. Business in the segment fully meets the industry's expectations, representatives report. As a result, manufacturers in this segment are also slapping on surcharges. Customers who want to order additional volumes often do not have any counter-arguments or else have to resort to alternative grades.

Market insiders confirm that the price hike for SC paper is slow to gain widespread traction because of the large number of long-term supply agreements. However, in cases where customers have signed quarterly contracts and need additional volumes of uncoated magazine paper, surcharges are usual.
