Expera acquires idled pulp mill in the USA

Expera Specialty Solutions will soon restart operations at the idled Old Town Fuel & Fibre pulp mill in Wisconsin. The company acquired the site with a capacity of 200,000 tpy of NBHK pulp and plans to restore 180 jobs.

The idled pulp mill of US company Old Town Fuel & Fibre might soon return to operation. According to different company press releases, investment firm Patriarch Partners has sold the pulp mill to paper manufacturer Expera Specialty Solutions. Expera said that it expects the transaction to be completed in the course of the fourth quarter. Shortly thereafter, pulp production will be started, the company told EUWID. The transaction parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.

Old Town Fuel & Fibre has an annual production capacity of 200,000 t of northern bleached hardwood kraft pulp (NBHK). The mill in Old Town/Maine was indefinitely idled in August this year. Expera told EUWID it now plans to restore the around 180 jobs which were previously lost due to the closure. The pulp from the mill will be used for Expera's own paper production.

Expera Specialty Solutions produces specialty paper products for use in the pressure-sensitive release liner, industrial and food packaging segments. The company is based in the state of Wisconsin where it employs around 1,800 persons and runs four mills.
