With the latest reduction in prices for ordinary recovered paper grades and softwood pulp, two major raw materials for packaging paper production are selling slightly cheaper again in many a market in Europe.

According to the latest EUWID pulp market report, softwood pulp prices staged a turnaround on the European market in October. For the first time since the middle of last year, buyers could wrangle a discount in negotiations over monthly prices for NBSK pulp.

In Germany, prices for ordinary recovered paper grades are heading lower again in November. Together with October's markdown, this latest development has likely erased September's steep rise in prices for the ordinary RCP grades.

On the recovered paper market in UK, a trend turnaround in prices for ordinary RCP grades started in October, with highest reduction seen for old corrugated containers. November prices continued on a downward trend.

In Italy and France, prices for mixed paper and board (1.02), supermarket paper and board (1.04) and old corrugated containers (OCC; 1.05) remained largely stable in October, but EUWID sources expected prices to start softening for deliveries in November.

First information from the RCP markets in Germany, France and UK now indicate a reduction of roughly €10 (£10)/t on the domestic market in November.
