Filtrona acquires Contego Healthcare

Filtrona has finalised the takeover of Contego Healthcare adding ten production sites to its business.

British specialty products company Filtrona has completed the takeover of the manufacturer of pharmaceutical packaging Contego Healthcare. The transaction that was announced on 19 March has been effective since 30 April. According to earlier reports, the transaction sum amounts to €160m.

Contego Healthcare has been integrated into Filtrona’s Coated & Security Products division. The companies Payne, Payne Security and Duraco are already part of this division. “Contego’s product portfolio is complementary to the company’s existing packaging solutions capabilities in the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets of labels, tear tape and authentication technologies,” Filtrona said in a statement.

Contego’s UK Managing Director Gerard Harford is to lead the Contego business. Tom Reid and Leon Taviansky will step down from their respective positions as CEO and CFO of Contego, the company announced.

Filtrona is a supplier of specialty plastic, fibre and foam products. The company has 42 production sites and employs around 5,000 persons.

Contego Healthcare specialises in cartons, leaflets, labels and printed foils for blister packs. The company operates ten production plants in Germany, the UK, France and Ireland and counts around 930 employees.
