There are signs of much slower business as a result of the pandemic in France's woodfree coated and uncoated paper markets. Prices in April were stable, but pressure is rising.
The French fine paper market is feeling the full force of the economic constraints associated with the coronavirus crisis. Paper manufacturers say they have experienced a significant slowdown in their order intake since the middle of March. Producers throughout the entire woodfree printing and writing paper business have adjusted their output to reflect current market conditions.
Prices for April deliveries of both woodfree uncoated and coated paper are virtually the same as in March. Generally speaking, sources said that issues other than pricing were paramount for the orders that were still being placed. However, low-priced offers are certainly doing the rounds, and recently awarded tenders indicate that prices tend to be under pressure
