Rising pulp costs are pushing fine paper producers to take action. They implemented price increases for woodfree papers in Germany in March or April.
The fine paper market in Germany continues to feel the squeeze between sharply rising pulp costs on the one hand and decreasing demand on the other. Against this backdrop, producers say they have no choice but to implement a purely cost-driven mark-up, especially considering the slippage in prices last year.
Higher woodfree paper prices were introduced in a few instances in March, with the hikes applying to non-contracted volumes. Mark-ups were then widely introduced for deliveries as of 1 April.
Until recently, the industry had been hoping for an uptick in advertising activity around Easter, but these hopes were dashed by the German government's latest statements about the coronavirus measures.
