Fine paper producers optimistic about future market development in Germany

Paper manufacturers are mulling over a next round of price hikes for woodfree uncoated paper in autumn after attempts to raise prices this spring were far from a resounding success.

A number of market players on the woodfree uncoated paper market in Germany feel that there is no cause for complaint at present. Manufacturers typically described their mills' capacity utilisation as good.

The industry stands firm in its decision not to leave the door wide open to calls for summer discounts. Industry insiders feel that a fresh attempt to raise prices will be mounted and expect these mark-ups to be announced for September or October.

The same is also true for woodfree coated paper, which has been struggling with falling prices for some time now. Suppliers are optimistic that they will be able to raise prices and thus create a healthier operating position for paper mills given that demand had not weakened any further so far this year and that business is expected to be seasonally strong after the summer is over.
