The upward price trend for nearly all paper and board grades as well as fibre also continued on the French market in July.
As expected, prices for publication paper changed course at the half-year point. In France, like elsewhere in Europe, paper producers were able to raise their prices – usually to the targeted amounts – thanks to rising demand and tighter supplies. The second wave of price hikes was also implemented on the market for woodfree coated and uncoated paper, enabling producers to offset a share of their increased production costs. Nevertheless, paper producers are already eyeing further price steps.
The market for corrugated case material is experiencing a continual upward price trend, too. Prices for recycled grades rose once more in July. Price hikes for kraftliner have been announced or already agreed for August. On the recovered paper market, prices were mostly stable for the grades used to produce packaging, while deinking grades became slightly more expensive. Because the costs of recovered paper, pulp and wood remain high, producers of cartonboard are looking to raise their sales prices again after the summer, even though prices have risen in several steps this year, most recently in July.
