German brown containerboard prices rise again in April

Recycled containerboard prices in Germany are not ceasing to rise. Producers cite high cost pressure due to record prices for recovered paper and good demand. They therefore want prices to increase even further.

The announced price increase for brown recycled corrugated case material with effect of 1 April has been implemented in Germany without any major discussions. According to EUWID respondents, many suppliers simply refused to negotiate prices. Customers who did not agree quickly had no choice but to accept volume reductions.

Given the enormous cost pressure - primarily due to recovered paper but also for auxiliary materials, transport, etc. - producers of recycled corrugated case material say they are forced to act, adding that the latest price increase is not sufficient. Further steps will have to follow soon, they say. Paper remains in short supply and getting deliveries on short notice is still almost impossible in Germany.
