German RCP prices up on pre-Christmas restocking

Recovered paper prices on the German market started pointing up in October amid market talks of buyers stocking up for the Christmas season.

Prices for recovered paper (RCP) in Germany edged up slightly in October. Industry observers viewed the increase as an indication that paper mills have already begun stocking their warehouses for the Christmas season and are calling off more material.

Price fluctuations in October were more or less consistent with EUWID respondents’ expectations. Recovered paper consumers, in particular, had expected that September’s prices would continue to move sideways into October. EUWID sources also noted that the normalisation of collection volumes after the summer holiday season had made it possible for buyers to eliminate the peak prices for special volumes in a few cases.
