Suppliers on the German market for woodfree coated and uncoated paper are experiencing an ongoing collapse in order backlogs. Printing companies have often been forced to cancel orders and many contracts have been postponed. The slump in new order intake is dramatic, all players agree. Experts describe the situation for commodity grades in particular as an undeclared case of force majeure.
In response to the demand crash, many paper mills are taking temporary downtime. Companies are in crisis mode and temporary lay-offs and short-time working is being discussed everywhere.
