Plans for the restart of the idled Lebel-sur-Quévillon pulp mill in Canada are ongoing. Nordic Kraft will receive state aid and the project, which will bring new capacities for softwood pulp, was now made official.

A statement from the province of Québec government says that Nordic Kraft will receive a financial help of around CAD138m. Once started-up, the mill will produce softwood kraft pulp with a capacity of 300,000 tpy. The start-up is scheduled for the first half of 2020.

Canadian forestry company Chantiers Chibougamau acquired the pulp mill along with energy generation equipment and land last year. Pulp production at the site has been idle for almost 15 years.
