Grigeo Klaipeda mill had to interrupt production after the expiring sewage treatment contract with local utility could not be extended.

Lithuania's recycled containerboard producer Grigeo Klaipeda, member of the Grigeo group, resumed production after more than three weeks of forced downtime. Production was temporarily suspended on 13 May after the company's wastewater tretament agreement with the local utility Klaipedos Vanduo could not be extended.

A new agreement with Klaipedos Vanduo was signed on 5 June and production activities immediately resumed, according to Grigeo.

Klaipedos Vanduo refused to extend the sewage treatment contract with the Grigeo Klaipeda as the paper mill did not meet the requirements on pre-treatment of industrial wastewater, Lithuania's media outlets reported citing utility's management.

Grigeo Klaipeda was already in the headlines at the the start of the year due to water pollution issues: The environmental protection authorities discovered that the paper mill was releasing untreated effluent into the Curonian Lagoon in the port city of Klaipeda.
