There are some more details on the new recycled containerboard machine that Hamburger Rieger wants to install in Spremberg, Germany. The production start-up is scheduled for mid-2020.

Hamburger Rieger has chosen Valmet as the supplier of its new recycled containerboard machine to be installed at the Spremberg site in Germany. The machine engineering company announced that the new PM 2 will produce uncoated white and brown testliner as well as white-top testliner in grammages of 90-180 g/m² with a capacity of 500.000 tpy. According to Valmet, the machine has a width of 8.6 m and a design speed of 1,500 m/min. As already announced by Hamburger earlier this year, the new capacities are planned to be started-up in mid-2020. Hamburger put the investment sum at €370m.

Hamburger is currently also pursuing a similar project at its Turkish subsidiary. Hamburger Turkey will build a greenfield mill in Kütahya, which will house a new machine for the production of mainly lightweight testliner and fluting. According to the plans, the machine will have a capacity of 480,000 tpy and a width of 7.8 m. The project is planned to be finalised in 2020 as well.

Hamburger Rieger is part of the Hamburger Containerboard division within the Austrian Prinzhorn Group. The company describes itself as one of Europe's leading manufacturers of containerboard. Hamburger Rieger operates seven plants and has a total containerboard capacity of 2 million tpy.
