International Paper ramping up PM 1 in Madrid

Commissioning of PM 1 at International Paper's Madrid mill is expected to be complete in the early summer.

Commissioning of International Paper’s PM 1 in Madrid started in June and is still ongoing. A spokesperson of the company told EUWID, ‘the conversion of the machine is progressing and expected to be competed in the early summer, seeing the benefits in the second half of 2018.’ When fully operational the machine will make some 400,000 tpy of lightweight recycled containerboard.

In October 2017 the machine, which used to make newsprint, was put out of operation in order to start its conversion to containerboard production.
