The Queck family of entrepreneurs has acquired the Swiss paper mill in Niederbipp from Kimberly-Clark Corporation (KCC). The agreement provides for the transfer on 1 May 2021. Lakana Holding, which is wholly owned by the Queck family, was founded to handle the takeover. With this transaction, the plant known as Tela in Niederbipp will continue to produce, the company confirmed in response to an EUWID enquiry.
In November 2020, Kimberly-Clark announced that the paper mill in Niederbipp would be sold or closed by the end of April 2021. Sanitary products produced there under the brand name Hakle, which is not part of the deal, will be manufactured in the future at the northern Italian KCC plant in Romagnano.
Tela's new owners, the Queck family of entrepreneurs, already own Cartaseta in Gret-zenbach, Fripa Papierfabrik Albert Friedrich in Miltenberg, Germany, and Fabryka Papieru Czerwonak in Czerwonak, Poland.
The paper mill complements the existing group of companies, the new onwers explain in a statement. The individual companies, for example Cartaseta or Fripa Papierfabrik Albert Friedrich KG, are legally independent of each other, but work closely together.

The takeover includes the entire paper mill at the Niederbipp site. The Tela brand is also part of the sale, but not the Hakle brand or other Kimberly-Clark brands. The new owners explain that it is a great challenge to maintain production of tissue paper in Switzerland, which is shown by Kimberly-Clark's decision to give up the production facility in Switzerland. The most important goal is for the new owners is to maintain and increase the competitiveness of the plant, which requires operational adjustments and changes.
