Kipas Kagit to build another PM for recycled fluting and liner at its Söke mill in Turkey

Kipas Kagit of Turkey ordered a new paper machine for recycled corrugated case material, which will be installed at its Söke mill in western Turkey. The new machine, PM 3, which will have a capacity of about 650,000 tpy, is geared to make recycled fluting, testliner and kraft top testliner grades with a basis weight of 60-110 g/m2. It is scheduled to start up in the third quarter of 2023. The new Valmet-build PM will have wire width of 9,100 mm an a design speed of 1,800 m/min.

Only recently in early July, the company commissioned the new PM 2 at the Söke mill, which was originally planned for start-up in June 2020. The Voith-supplied PM 2 has a maximum output capacity of 700,000 tpy and is producing a variety of packaging paper grades including recycled fluting, brown testliner, white-top testliner, kraft-top liner and white-lined chipboard. After trial production of different grades will be finalised the machine is expected to enter regular production at the end of September. PM 2 has a wire width of 8.9 m and a maximum design speed of 1,200 m/min. Basis weights of the paper and board produced on the machine range from 90 to 400 g/m2.

Kipas Kagit runs another recycled containerboard machine at its Kahramanmaras paper mill, which has capacity of 450,000 tpy. Recently the company ordered a waste-to-energy plant for the mill will which is to be commissioned in the third quarter 2023. The WtE plant will burn paper and water treatment sludge, rejects and coal and will produce up to 260 t per hour of steam.
