Klabin reviews new mega-investment in new pulp and paper capacity

New pulp line would boost the company's pulp output capacity to 4,3 million t

Brazil’s largest paper and board manufacturer Klabin is reviewing plans to build two new paper machines and a pulp line at its new site in Brazil’s Paraná state. The proposal to invest roughly $2bn in total will be presented to the company’s management for review early in the fourth quarter of the year, a company spokeswoman said responding to a query.

The proposed expansion project involves a 450,000 tpy kraftliner mill and a new line that a can produce a million tpy of unbleached pulp and later, a board machine especially to produce liquid packaging board. Subject to go-ahead from the management, the kraftliner PM and the pulp line could start to operate in 2020, the board machine two years later, according to the provisional timeline.
