New PM 27 kraftliner machine will be followed by the kraftlliner and cartonboard flex-machine PM 28 in 2023.

Brazil's Klabin has started up its new kraftliner machine PM 27 at the company's site in Ortigueira, in the country's federal state of Paraná, on 30 August 2021.The new machine is part of Klabin's Puma II expansion project. Originally Klabin had planned to start up kraftliner production on PM 27 in May this year.

The Valmet-supplied kraftliner machine has a wire width of 9 m and a design speed of 1,200 m/min, and can produce brown and white-top kraftliner in basis weights of 80-200 g/m². According to Klabin, the machine will produce kraftliner from 100 per cent eucalyptus pulp. Klabin will market the paper under its new Eukaliner brand.

Klabin already placed an order with Valmet to deliver another paper and board machine for the Puma II expansion project. The PM 28 is reportedly geared for a production capacity of 470,000 tpy and will produce a variety of packaging paper and board grades, including kraftliner, folding boxboard (FBB) and liquid packaging board (LPB).
