Kraftliner prices under pressure, but stable on German market in August

After price reductions in July taking back the hike from the spring, by and large no further price moves have been reported for brown kraftliner in Germany in August.

Looking ahead to September, market players are less convinced that the current price levels will remain in effect. The amounts that may be discussed in the coming days will be influenced by the developments in the recycled corrugated case material segment, where prices fell again in August. Only a handful of companies believe that the price talks for unbleached kraftliner will not occur until October.

However, there are also respondents from the corrugated industry who say they do not want to put any excessive pressure on paper mills, since this pressure will ultimately find its way throughout the entire value chain.

You will find more about the market development in Germany (viz. for fine paper) in our next issue no 36/2020, which will be available to our e-paper and print subscribers as of 2 September.
