Kraftliner suppliers report unsatisfactory demand in Germany

No price movement for brown and white-top kraftliner on the German corrugated case material market in May, but buyers are said to push for lower prices in June.

EUWID respondents unanimously report low order intake and shrinking order backlogs for both brown and white-top kraftliner in Germany. Demand is declining, affected by output reduction at corrugated board and packaging producers, according to market players.

There was no price movement for brown and white-top kraftliner in May. Converters say they were approached with announcements of price hikes, but the producers ultimately backed off in the light of weaker demand and customers' high inventory levels.

Now, since converters are complaining loudly about their earnings situation, it is expected that pressure on the prices will grow and buyers will push for the April price hike to be rescinded.
