Despite a good order situation, prices for label paper in Germany did not change during the second quarter and were also carried over into the third quarter.

Manufacturers of label paper supplying the German market reported strong deliveries in the first half of the year. After demand picked up relatively quickly in the first quarter, order books remained well filled throughout the entire second quarter, producers told EUWID. The industry was benefiting from catch-up demand from printing companies as well as the early start to summer weather, not to mention the football World Cup, they explained.

However, there had been no changes in prices during the second quarter. Owing to the unsatisfactory earnings situation, some paper producers wanted to start up price negotiations again in the third quarter. Yet despite the good sales situation, they had not been able to adjust prices in the expiring quarterly and half-year contracts. Consequently, the most recent prices were carried over into the third quarter.
