Label paper suppliers announce price hikes for 2020

As pressure on margins continues to be felt, some producers of wet-strength and alkali-resistant label papers have already announced price hikes as of 1 January 2020.

Although pressure on label paper prices was still latent, prices largely remained unchanged in the third quarter. This is mainly due to the large number of annual contracts, respondents noted.

Contract negotiations for next year will begin soon. Two producers already informed customers about their intention to increase prices for wet-strength label papers. Despite the downward trend in pulp prices, general costs were still high, e.g. for chemicals, freight and energy.
