Prices hikes were necessary as manufacturing costs had increased and LWC paper prices still needed to catch up a lot, suppliers said.

The LWC market in the UK has become much narrower during the past few months, Demand in Western Europe is generally described as good to very good and producers are saying that their machines are running at full speed. Market players confirm that some of this demand is coming from customers normally active in the SC paper and woodfree coated paper market.

Several EUWID sources warned that the LWC market was experiencing a bubble right now, . Some other feel that the situation is nothing to worry about and said the present shifting of market shares is something that certainly can last for a while.

Against the background of strong demand and tighter supply, the first LWC paper producers have said that they wanted to charge more for Q2 deliveries Prices are set to rise by £25-35/t from April onwards where they are not governed by contracts. Other paper producers said that they are pursuing similar plans, but have yet to approach their customers.
