M-real concludes consultation process on the closure of the Alizay paper mill

Statutory information and consultation process to close the Alizay mill finalised. Another material step towards eliminating losses in the paper segment has been taken, says CEO Mikko Helander.

M-real has concluded the information and consultation processes on the closure of its Alizay paper mill in France. Following the conclusion of negotiations with employee representatives, the company has met all the legal requirements and can now "take the final decisions to close the Alizay mill," says M-real. These decisions will be taken by the Board of Directors. The next meeting of the Board is due to take place soon.
The Alizay paper mill has one paper machine with an installed capacity of 310,000 tpy of uncoated woodfree paper and recycled office papers. Paper production at the Alizay has been idle since October last year. 330 people will be made redundant by the end of the second quarter 2012.
