M-real to close Alizay paper mill

M-real has decided to shut down its Alizay paper mill in France for good following the failure of sale negotiations with potential buyers. The closure of the printing and writing paper mill in Alizay will affect some 330 employees, consultation process with employee representatives is to be commenced soon, the company says. M-real's Alizay mill runs one paper machine and two cut-size lines. The production capacity is quoted at 310,000 tpy of uncoated woodfree and recycled office papers.

UWF and specialty paper production to close at Gohrsmühle
Production of specialty paper and uncoated fine paper at M-real's Gohrsmühle plant in Germany is to be discontinued as well, reducing M-real's capacity by 60,000 tpy of specialty papers and 120,000 tpy of UWF paper The company says it has not been able to find a suitable buyer, neither for the entire Gohrsmühle site nor for parts of it. Production of 55,000 tpy of cast-coated paper and board under the Chromolux brand is not affected by the closure. M-real currently investigates possibilities to start up a new customer service and logistics center for folding boxboard in Gohrsmühle, including a sheeting facility.
