Magazine paper price talks settled in Poland

In contrast to the general trend in Europe, demand for magazine paper in Poland increased slightly in 2013. However, good market development in 2013 did not always help LWC and SC paper suppliers in negotiating higher prices in half-year and full-year 2014 contracts.

Price talks on the magazine paper market in Poland have been finalised by the middle of January at the latest. In the SC-B paper segment the good order situation in the fourth quarter of 2013 has led to temporary supply bottlenecks and promoted upward corrections in 2014 deliveries. As far as regards SC-A paper, prices remained stable in those cases where they had been corrected in the fourth quarter of 2013. Some producers also reported price hikes for SC-A paper

For larger projects, however, SC-paper buyers were even able to get discounts without much effort. Attractive spot prices for SC-B paper had been creating additional upset in January, EUWID was told.

Given the excess supply in the coated magazine paper market, LWC producers had less of a chance to implement higher prices. Market participants reportedly closed the latest price round with reductions or stable prices in a few cases. They hope that the effect of the pending capacity reductions will be noticeable at some point.
