There seems to be no real summer slump on the German market for cores and coreboard this year. Order intake is stable and business has not been suffering to the same extent as in the past, according to EUWID sources.
Core manufacturers reported that demand in July and August was unusually good and that there was no sign of a dip in incoming orders. Some producers explained to have run into difficulties to execute orders on schedule as they had prepared for a weaker demand and had previously switched to holiday mode. "We have been caught on the wrong foot", a company said explaining the unusual situation. The healthy market has further taken pressure off cores' prices so that not every contract needs to be re-negotiated.
Coreboard producers also reported stable business but could feel the holiday season more distinctly in their order books. As such, summer rebates were reportedly offered for some volumes but then again there was no question of any overcapacity, respondents told EUWID.
Prices for coreboard have been adjusted by 2% in July or August in cases where the price hike was postponed during the last round of negotiations. By August at the latest, higher prices have reportedly been implemented on a widespread basis.
