Former Södra Cell 130,000 tpy CTMP mill in Folla has resumed production after ten months of standstill.

Mayr-Melnhof Karton has restarted production of chemi-thermomechanical pulp (CTMP) at the Folla mill in Norway on 2 September. According to a company spokesman, the Norwegian production unit, formerly owned by the Swedish pulp manufacturer Södra, was expected to return to full operation at the end of September. Mayr-Melnhof puts the plant's production capacity at 130,000 tpy of CTMP.

New employees were said to be hired to raise the mill's workforce "to the required level". Around 50 Södra employees used to run the mill, which was closed down in October 2012 due to a lack of profitability. Södra thus withdrew from the CTMP business altogether. According to previous reports, Mayr-Melnhof plans to use the pulp for integrated cartonboard production.
