Mondi SCP's new PM 19 at the Ružomberok pulp and paper mill will be designed to produce a two-ply, recycled containerboard grade with the white top layer containing virgin pulp. However, the project is running into delays.

Mondi SCP, a joint venture between Mondi Group and Slovakia's investment company Eco-Invest, is planning an €310m investment in the construction of a 300,000 tpy kraft top white containerboard machine and related pulp mill upgrade at its site in Ružomberok. The project had been confirmed in March 2016 and the company's new PM 19 was originally planned to come online in the second quarter of 2019, but Mondi has now postponed the start-up date to 2020.

"The project is still subject to obtaining all necessary permitting and the project is progressing with start-up expected in 2020," a spokesperson for the Mondi Group said in response to an enquiry.

Mondi SCP is producing 560,000 t of pulp and 640,000 t of uncoated fine paper and bleached kraft paper. Last week, the company received approval from the European Commission (EC) for the €49m investment aid granted by the government of Slovakia.
