Covid-19 slowed works at Mondi's Ruzomberok mill in the second quarter. Project costs increase to €370m.

Paper and packaging group Mondi is progressing with the investment and capacity increase project at the Ruzomberok mill in Slovakia where a new 300,000 tpy kraft top white containerboard machine is being installed. However, the project has run into delays as a consequence of Covid-19. Originally planned for the end of 2020, the start-up of the new PM is now expected in the first half of 2021, according to Mondi.

Mondi had also had to increase the capital expenditure for the Ruzomberok project by €30m, "due to the extended project duration, scope modifications and higher than expected civil construction and equipment costs." The total capital investment, including the rebuild of the pulp mill completed in 2019, was now expected at €370 million, the group announced.
