Navigator resumes production after hurricane

The pulp and fine paper mill of The Navigator Company was down for more than a week because it was damaged by hurricane Leslie. Now, two out of three lines have been restarted.

Portuguese pulp and paper producer The Navigator Company (Navigator) has restarted production at its Figueira da Foz mill. The site was down by approximately one week after it was damaged by hurricane Leslie, which made landfall in Portugal on 13 and 14 October.

Navigator reports that the supply of water, electricity and telecom services was restored and that the pulp line as well as PM 2 have already resumed production. The start-up of PM 1 was initiated today, with paper production from this machine expected to resume during next weekend, according to Navigator. The company put the estimated loss in production due to the stoppage at 9,000 t of pulp and 10,000 t of paper.

The Figueira da Foz mill has the capacity to produce 650,000 tpy of hardwood pulp and 800,000 tpy of woodfree uncoated paper.
