Oji Holdings to increase thermal paper capacity in Brazil

Oji Holdings Corporation plans to expand thermal paper production capacity at its Brazilian subsidiary Oji Papéis Especiais Ltda.

The company has earmarked JPY13bn (~€110m) to upgrade existing coating facilities and install a new coater at its mill in Piracicaba. This will increase total production capacity at the mill by 70,000 tpy to 150,000 tpy of paper. The upgrade is scheduled to be concluded in December 2021.The mill's portfolio comprises thermal and carbonless paper.

Thermal paper consumption in south and central America is showing steady growth as POS and logistics systems, which mainly utilise thermal papers, are becoming more and more widespread, according to Oji. In view of that growth, Oji Papéis Especiais is expected to increase its share in the thermal paper market in the whole region.
