Pro-Gest's recycled containerboard and tissue mill has been standing still since last Tuesday. It is not the only site in Italy experiencing production stoppages lately.
The recycled containerboard and tissue paper mill Villa Lagarina of Italian company Pro-Gest is currently standing still. The company confirmed that production had been halted last Tuesday due to a defect at the auxiliary equipment. Operations should be resumed today, said a company spokesperson.
Villa Lagarina mill has a production capacity of around 300,000 tpy of lightweight corrugated case material made from recovered paper as well as 35,000 tpy of tissue paper. The mill is located in Rovereto in northern Italy and employs 150 people.
The Italian market has been hit by several unplanned production stoppages of late. Reno de Medici's Villa Santa Lucia cartonboard plant is currently down due to issues related with the water treatment facility operated by Cosilam. After 20 days of downtime, it is still not clear yet when production can be resumed.
Burgo's newly rebuilt recycled containerboard mill in Verzuolo also had problems with its waste waster treatment plant and had to interrupt operations for ten days in February. The mill, which is still in the start-up phase after being rebuilt, is now up and running again. Finally, cartonboard producer Cartiera di Momo has been idle since July last year.
Italian recovered paper suppliers are also feeling the effects of this situation and report that domestic demand for recovered paper has slowed in February.
