Mackenzie pulp cannot compete successfully on the global market due to limited capacity and shortage of economc fibre, according to Paper Excellence.

Paper Excellence has announced the permanent closure of the Maclenzie pulp mill in Canada's province of British Columbia. The mill has been standing idle since the end of June 2020 when the company decided to curtail the temporarily halt operations due to the economic impacts of Covid-19 and fibre shortage.

Mackenzie pulp mill can produce 240,000 tpy of Northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp. Paper Excellence blames its decision for a definitive closure on the rather small capacity of the mill and the ongoing lack of local economic fibre which impact the mill's competitive position on the global market.
