The idle specialty paper mill of Papeterie Raon in France has now been sold to CVB Ecologistics. The recycling company will be its own customer by delivering the paper mill with recovered paper grades which are difficult to process.

Specialty paper producer Papeterie Raon, which has been in liquidation since February, has been sold. Dutch recycling company CVB Ecologistics announced it had acquired the French company comprising the site in Raon l’Étape in eastern France. The mill has reportedly been renamed Raon Circular Regeneration (RCR). Production is to restart in the course of June.

CVB explained that the paper mill disposed of an advanced stock preparation which allowed to process difficult recyclable grades of recovered paper such as milk cartons and other liquid packaging often coated with foil. CVB said it formerly sold waste liquid packaging to Papeterie Raon or to China. „With new legislation for imports into China and the closure of Raon, outlet of these difficult recyclable grades were at risk,“ it added. So it decided to take over the site.

CVB says it will produce bleached and unbleached packaging paper in grammages between 18 and 50 g in Raon l’Étape. Before closure, Papeterie Raon used to produce specialty paper for packaging applications such as takeout bags or paper tablecloths on two machines with a capacity of around 50,000 tpy.
